Vacancy for Parish Councillor

Gary is stepping down and so we are looking for a new councillor.

Published: 21 May 2026

Gary is stepping down – thanks for your work over the years, Gary.

We need another councillor.

There are monthly meetings lasting 2 hours (Weds evening at the moment) where we agree what the next steps on small projects are, comment on planning applications and occasionally deal with residents’ issues.

We are not experts. A Parish Council can offer an opinion about a planning application, but East Devon always take the decision. The sort of projects we are dealing with at the moment are getting a roundabout installed in the Playing Field with money we have to spend on equipment (so no decision had to be made about that), following up on a request to investigate residents’ parking, replacing a planter hit by a car in February…

Nothing difficult and Rob, our Clerk, moves on the decisions. He is the expert and this means he is responsible. The councillors just agree the way forward.

There are a couple of hours’ reading to be done to keep on top of emails and relevant information during the month.

If you are interested and have more time, other ideas can be brought to meetings. We have a small budget to do things with.

It is unpaid and I don’t always feel full of joy at the prospect of a meeting, but the reason I do this is that I get tired of complaining and would rather try and get change. It can be frustrating but this is the only mechanism for getting in touch with Devon or East Devon and mostly getting a response.

If this is of interest, you can come along to a meeting and see how they run. It is pretty informal, we just need to go through a process to show items on the agenda were considered and dealt with.

You can contact the Clerk for more info…
